I would like to introduce you to my good friend, Peter Goldmark. Peter is campaigning to be our state’s next Commissioner of Public Lands.

Peter Goldmark is a lifelong Okanogan rancher, scientist, wheat breeder, former state Director of Agriculture, WSU regent and rural school board leader, conservationist, outdoorsman, and father of five children. He will bring diverse experiences and a much needed perspective to this critical post.

I hope you will take a minute to travel to Okanagon County to meet Peter on his Double J Ranch and learn why he is running for Lands Commissioner:

The Lands Commissioner oversees 3.8 million acres of state forests, shorelines, agricultural, and range lands. As Washington faces a growing population, climate change, and a fluctuating economy, it is critical that we elect a Lands Commissioner with a commitment to long-term sustainability – for trust revenues, jobs, recreation, fish and wildlife habitat, and ecological protection.

That’s why we must elect Peter Goldmark this November!

Montana Governor Brian Schweitzer is “riding into town” to host a campaign kickoff for Peter on Monday, April 7th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at the Olympic Sculpture Park Pavilion in downtown Seattle (2901 Western Ave., Seattle 98121). I hope that you can join us! To RSVP, e-mail kellydrake21@comcast.net.

If you are unable to attend, please consider making a financial contribution to Peter’s campaign by clicking here. The campaign has set a goal to raise $1 million prior to the November election. Peter has already raised more than $200,000. Can you help bring him closer to the goal? Every dollar is critical.

The current Lands Commissioner is Republican Doug Sutherland. Sutherland is an Olympia insider who has sought to massively expand clear-cut logging despite the state’s shrinking forest base. The catastrophic floods of December 2007 in Lewis County were in part to blame on unsustainable and risky steep slope logging practices approved by Sutherland.

Peter Goldmark will reverse these dangerous trends and manage our public lands with a commitment to long-term economic sustainability and maximum public value. Please join us on April 7th at the Olympic Sculpture Park to formally kickoff Peter’s campaign to restore the public’s trust in our public lands!

With Warm Regards,

Dwight Pelz
Washington State Democrats Chair
