BILL RICHARDSON FOR SECRETARY OF STATE
In a campaign press release, New Mexico Governor and former Democratic hopeful, Bill Richardson, announced to his supporters yesterday that he had completed a trip to meet with both Colombian President Alvaro Uribe and Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez to try to win the release of American hostages held by FARC rebels since 2003. “As is often the case with these negotiations, the results were not immediate–but I believe we made real progress” Governor Richardson said.
Governor Richardson also spoke of recent meetings with Mexican President Feilipe Calderon about issues ranging from border security to drug trafficking, before making his pitch to supporters to donate to Democratic races around the country. At one point Richardson declares: “…my number-one focus between now and November will be to keep New Mexico a blue state and get as many Democrats elected nationally as possible–particularly those who share my belief in diplomacy abroad and investment here at home.”
It would seem increasingly apparent that Governor Richardson, who is prohibited from running for re-election by state term limits, is now readying himself to make a dash for President Obama’s nomination as Secretary of State.
