The following email was sent yesterday from the office of Pierce County Councilman (and Democratic candidate for County Executive) Calvin Goings. It was drafted in response to an email that more or less reflected the most recent Arts Update.

Dear Chris:

Thank you for contacting my office regarding the Pierce County Arts
Commission. I appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts
with me as well as your service on the Commission.

As you may be aware, the proposed 2009 Pierce County budget is
initiated by the Pierce County Executive during the summer. The
proposed 2008 budget will be forwarded this fall to the Pierce County
Council for review. It is during this review period that the County
council will consider making revisions to the Executive’s proposal.

As we enter into those budget discussions, you have my commitment to
advocate for the needs of the Pierce County Arts Commission. I
recognize the importance of the Commission, and you have my commitment
to do all that I can to provide funding for these vital community art
programs.

As your advocate on the Pierce County Council it is important that I
hear the issues of concern to you. Again, thank you very much for
contacting me and if you should have any additional questions regarding
this or any other issue, please do not hesitate to contact me.
