Elliot, best interview yet!!! I especially liked your smooth way of bringing him back to the gay rights issue. I have to say, I do respect his forthright manner and honesty, even when he KNOWS Tacoma, and most of Pierce county, for that matter, is in favor of creating equality between gays and lesbians and heterosexuals. Most politicians would back down on that issue, or skirt it, or gracefully change the subject to commonalities. Instead, he states his platformed opinion. I disagree with him, but kudos for that, at least!

One time I saw Mike Lonergan on the freeway overpass waving at passing cars and holding his sign. It made my day.

Lonergan panders to the Christian right and he doesn't care about your civil liberties. Don't vote for him.

Attacked Calvin and Bunney, all but endorsed Pat as his second choice, skirted the domestic partnership issue with the same Republican thinking we've seen time and again when this issue comes up. If Lonergan is really concerned with saving money and being fiscally conservative, then it will ultimately cost Tacoma less money to provide health benefits to gay couples than it would to otherwise lose talented individuals to other cities or risk getting suited on the basis of discrimination.

Otherwise, a genuinely nice guy with a good head full of good ideas. He might be my second choice, we'll see.
