Greetings Chalk Fans,

The Melon is happy to promote an event being organized by Pinwheel Caterings’ Herban Cafe in conjunction with the show’s curator, illustrator James Stowe. Starting (this) Saturday, October 25th, Herban Cafe will be displaying art work from and inspired by the Frost Park Chalk Offs.  The opening event beings at 6pm for artists only and 7pm to 9pm for members of the public.

I took a look around the pieces already garnering the walls of the Cafe, when dropping off my painting last night, and there’s some fantastic work and memories by artists like RR Anderson, James Stowe and Andrea Lowen already up.  Saturday evening is must see and an excellent opportunity to celebrate a wonderful season of chalk. Plus they’re giving out free grub.

Sunday also marks the official reopening of the Herban Cafe after an extended hiatus. Never having been there before last night, I have no idea what it’s like but the atmosphere seems pretty classy and friendly. They’re also offering free coffee from 7am to 11am on Sunday, so if you’re an unrepentant caffeine addict Herban may be your new vice.

Additionally, there are only two episodes left of the Frost Park Chalk Offs, so be sure to join the Chalkies at noon on Friday for you last opportunity to be involved in an amazing community art event.

Oh yeah, and for those of you that have attended the Frost Park Chalk Offs, you can vote over at Feed Tacoma in the first annual Frosties (The Frost Park Chalk Offs Awards of Excellence and Achievement.) Although I didn’t manage to make the nomination cut for anything (what gives?) there’s plenty of opportunity to show some sugar to your favorite Chalkie.
